Executive Summary

ANALYST: COI RESEARCH

Deployment of EV fast chargers with integrated battery storage, allowing ultrafast charging (150kW+) using existing low-voltage grid connections, bypassing the need for expensive substation upgrades.

rate_review Analyst Verdict

"Solves the 'last mile' power problem. Installing a 150kW charger usually requires a massive grid upgrade ($50k-$200k) and months of permitting. FreeWire works on a standard outlet, trickle charging its battery to blast power into the car when needed."

warning The Challenge

Retailers (gas stations, convenience stores) want to offer EV fast charging. However, their existing grid connection is often weak (low voltage). Upgrading the transformer to support 150kW+ chargers is prohibitively expensive and takes 12-18 months of utility coordination. This stalled rollout in rural or older areas.

psychology The Solution

Deployed the Boost Charger. It connects to standard low-power infrastructure (27kW). It sips power continuously to charge its internal 160kWh battery. When a car plugs in, it discharges from the battery at high speed (150kW+). This decouples the grid limit from the charging speed.
